Unnatural Causes
Tonight at 10 p.m.
WGBH will debut a new seven-part documentary series that looks into how social and economic conditions affect health. The series begins with "In Sickness and in Wealth," an episode that compares the paths of a CEO, lab supervisor, janitor and unemployed mother in Kentucky as they attempt to access resources. Other topics explored by the series:
- Why do infant mortality rates among African Americans remain more than twice as high as among white Americans?
- Can we connect the dots between health, wealth and zip codes
- What connections exist between healthy bodies and healthy bank accounts?
If you catch any of the series, check back here and tell me what you thought. I can't speak for the documentary itself, but the supporting website has a ton of information, case studies, and opportunities for action. For now, here's a preview (if you are viewing this from behind a firewall, you may not be able to see the video below.)
Thanks to Spotlight on Poverty for the tip.
